Alumni and Medical Education Program News

Alumni Updates

Brett Carter, MD (2010), was named the 2016 ARRS Melvin M. Figley Fellow. The Figley Fellowship promotes excellence in radiology journalism and cultivates the next generation of reviewers, editors and teachers. It offers an opportunity to work closely with American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR) editors and staff to learn the fundamentals of medical publishing.

All Figley fellows complete a scholarly project during the course of their experience that seeks to contribute to and improve the AJR. Dr. Carter designed a project to address the state of the reviewer database, which is currently composed of more than 2,000 individuals – the vast majority of whom are radiologists.

For the second consecutive year, members of the Baylor Dallas radiology department won first place in the Philips Vydareny Imaging Interpretation Competition at the 64th annual Association for University Radiologists held in Florida. The competition features a challenging set of unknown images and trivia questions answered by teams from academic institutions across the country. It marks the third time BUMC has won the competition, a feat matched by only two out of over 180 residency programs in the nation. It also marks the first time a team has won back-to-back years.
