The impact of the first three industrial revolutions — the steam engine, the age of science and mass production, and the rise of digital technology — fundamentally changed the world and transformed society. The fourth industrial revolution is upon us powered by the cloud, social, mobile, the Internet of things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI), along with increasing computing power. We’ve gone from neural networking to machine learning and now deep learning, or black-box learning.

As medicine and technology evolve, understanding what moves a field forward becomes more than informational — it becomes critical. Leaders from industry and academia stressed this point during a panel discussion at the Dallas Leipzig conference and shared their insights on the interplay between regulation and innovation, and how changes underway could impact the U.S. device market.

North Texas played host to a major international cardiovascular conference, Dallas Leipzig 2018, on Dec. 13-15, 2018. The event, which was held in conjunction with the Leipzig Heart Center in Germany, brought together world leaders in structural and valvular heart disease to discuss innovative concepts and observe some of the latest tools and techniques in action. The event’s agenda was specifically designed for, but not limited to, cardiothoracic surgeons, primary cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, anesthesiologists, nurses, technicians, nurse practitioners, perfusionists, cardiac imaging specialists and other healthcare providers of cardiovascular teams.
