The Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, Graduate Medical Education program hosted two of its signature events during the first half of 2019, and also recently bid farewell to a pair of physicians who contributed immensely to the project.

The Flame asks Houston native Umesh D. Oza, MD, former program director of the Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, Radiology Residency and current vice-chair of Radiology, five questions about his time teaching at Baylor University Medical Center and his passions outside of medicine.

Lyndsey Harper, MD, FACOG, has an early story familiar to many who enter the field of medicine. “I was one of those kids that always wanted to be a doctor,” she says. “I loved science, and it seemed to match my skill set.”

However, after becoming a practicing physician, her journey took a turn down a road unfamiliar to most in the field: CEO of a start-up.

There is something quintessentially American about children following their parents into the family business. Even in the highly competitive, unique field of healthcare, having a son or daughter follow doctor mom or doctor dad into medicine is not unusual. What is unusual is five members of the same family–representing different specialties–working at the same hospital and even on the same cases.
